We bought a house!
And we even have a home phone, which means I'm a
REAL adult now.
A real adult with a mortgage and sales phone calls at odd hours.
Check ME out.
After renting for nearly 5 years in a too small for 4 family members house we decided, lets just look. With the bad economy here in Ohio it is a buyers market, and now the The Man has a "professional" career plus a VA loan, getting a home loan was easy for us. Luckily, my in laws are also real estate agents, so we decided to start looking just a month after The Man began his job ( totally another post for another time, my friends!)
After seeing some nice options, some small options, misleading photos & some sad face foreclosures with Always Kiss me Goodnight & disney princesses left to mold in once beautiful homes I admit, I felt discouraged.
Where was this "feeling" everyone talked about???
We decided to see the last house, which I'd been very hopeful about, but was prepared for the worst after several others we drove up a hill & parked. When we got out of the car i smiled, as I spotted some blueberry bushes.
Ever read the book Blueberries for Sal
??
It was one of my childhood books. The story goes, my dad would hold me in one arm with a colander in the hand & pick berries with the other hand. For each he put in, I ate.
When we left that house my mom says the first thing I asked of the new house was "Where are the blueberry bushes???"
I've been sort of a blueberry girl ever since.
I joked to The Man it was a sign as we walked up the front steps.
Peeking in the window I saw they had the same Ikea lamp as us. I laughed again they left the light on for us.
We walked in & I smelled something familiar.
Lemon zest cake. Another family familiar. My sister makes citrus zest cakes like no other. The owners left us a lemon zest pound cake with a note to enjoy.
I smiled, and saw they had the couch I'd been pricing on line just last week.
Totally coincidence?
With in 5 minutes I grabbed The Man & said "THIS IS
IT. Do EVERYTHING in your power to make SURE your dad gets this house for us." He agreed, we hugged, then we began to look it over & discuss details of the contract we'd write up.
I would say "And that was that!" but of course, it wasn't. 2 delayed weeks on closing, a new furnace & a new oven later, we were moving in, stupidly, on my part, by ourselves.
"Oh honey, we don't need to hire movers, lets just get a U-Haul."
STUPIDEST WORDS EVER!!!
I now know I'm not NEARLY as strong as I like to think I am, and dropping a 300 lb entertainment stand is never a good thing. Neither is using your head to help move a king sized mattress. Your forehead WILL bruise.
If we ever sell this house? The furniture stays. ..Or we'll just get movers,
details schmetails.
My mom watched the boys over night since we moved our selves & we spent the first night in our new home just the 2 of us. First time in over 5 years. Bruised, battered & exhausted in a small village ( no joke, it is a village people!) with pizza & a mattress on the floor.
We've been here about 3 weeks now & I can't WAIT to share the progress with you guys!! I'm slowly building up posts in between painting & the kids starting school & am eager to share my happiness!
Welcome home!
May many muffins AND cupcakes be made here for many years to come!!!
