Wordless Wednesday

My husband is gross. And so is my dog.

 My dog is gross. This we know. She has a bad habit of eating poop out of the cat's litter box at night. I mean, I can't be around to scoop it at all hours of the day & she actually HOPS in and DIGS. It's gross. And kind of funny to see your dog who is smaller than your cat, standing INSIDE the litter box.

However, its fucking gross & I yell at Mike to take care of it like, ALL the time.

Apparently, instead, he decided to take pictures.

I've had camera troubles for awhile, I had to re install my software to get it to work, so I had a good couple of months of photos to upload. As I scanned through them obviously, i found one I didn't remember taking, so I opened it. To a full size image.

Then I barfed.

My camera takes pretty good quality pictures, I will say that.

I keep making the mistake of opening the photo again, It's like a scab, I keep opening it over & over no matter the repercussions.

I obviously need to do SOMETHING with it, but what? I've been asking myself, what can I possibly use a picture of my dog eating shit for??

Today, after seeing all the awesome awards on this blog I've recently found & have come to LOVE.
Steam Me Up, Kid. I think this is the funniest blog ever. I mean, I have nearly died reading her posts. Literally, I almost choked & died.

And then this site, which I recently found & now LOVE. Obvious Winner. Which I just don't have words for.It's THAT awesome.

I have to tell you. This is so cool on so many levels, but I  thought it was awesome to see a comment about informed vaccination decisions. I personally, am on the "selective  & delayed" vaccination boat.

My question is exactly what you said Lee, what are Adams thoughts on making informed decisions regarding vaccinations? With celebrities like Jim Carrey & Jenny McCarthy coming out speaking about their informed vaccination choices & urging other parents to do the same, would Adam say he is on the same side of the fence as them? What has led him to his personal believes on vaccinations. I don’t know, does he have children?? I have strong views, which arent always the popular mainstream, thoughts myself. I thought it was cool to see a celebrity, that would speak about that, on a mom blog. It’s prompting me to look more into Adams acting & work now! Maybe I’ll find a new show to Tivo, this Chuck, huh?? I’m actually intrigued to see the vaccination comment mentioned & will be tuning into the interview, for that alone! Plus, Adam isnt shabby on the eyes.

Since Mike started back in school, basically last week I've had my blog time back. I've spent a good majority of it nearly peeing myself as I read the entries of some of my new favorites & special finds.

Girl Talk Thursday

"Tell us about your favorite beauty secret"

I am not ashamed to say that I am thrilled to jump into this Girl Talk thing with this because I LOVE talking about random things & sharing my opinions & beauty products are one of those things that I have been there, done that with so much of it all & I truly have well formed thoughts.

-Dove bar soap.
I swear. If someone told me they'd kill me if I didnt only use one type of cleanser for the rest of my life, I'd pee myself out of fright, but then I'd wash up with Dove. There is a reason its in SO many magazines as the basic perfect bar of soap for all needs. It's just perfect. You get clean, that's a plus. But its gentle enough for babies, it doesn't clog pores & the gentleness of it makes it perfect for faces. Its just an all around moisturizing, gentle, pure soap. I've tried all sorts of expensive designer soaps, handmade soaps, you name it, if its made to clean your bod  in the shower & its under $50 a bottle, I've likely tried it. I could always come back & use Dove & think "why don't I always use this?"

-Salon quality hair products. My favorite, hands down in Matrix Smoothing for shampoo & conditioner. I am the queen of a million shampoo bottles in the shower. I like to rotate.. I have a schedule.. it's intense. But, I have good hair, I've never met anyone who hasnt said so!

-Proactiv. I don't even have "bad" skin. I have pretty good skin, I think I maybe had ONE blemish before the age of 19. With the crazy hormones of all this kid having, its been a skin saver for me! There is a reason its all over the place, it works!!!

-I'm also a fan of removing your makeup. All the time, all the way. Ugh. Don't even get me started, I'll just leave it at that!

-Water. Drinking water gives better hair, skin & all around beauty health. It's basically all I drink,besides tea, lately.

-Sleep. Ditto above!

I try to limit the use of chemicals in this house, I make my own cleansers ( time consuming) I buy safe & natural cleansers ( which aren't always available in store, so they require shipment & anyone who buys online knows you never buy from the first place you find, you find coupon codes & hunt for the best price, or free shipping,etc) but now I've been cleanser free in my entire house for TWO months. No paper towels, no cleansers.. The savings alone, minus the extra benefits of Activeion have been amazing.

Mikes favorite was cleaning glass, while I actually got stains out of the 2 (fabric!) recliners out boys have taken over.

Cuisinart Rice Plus Multi-Cooker with Fuzzy Logic Technology

I used to be a white rice kind of girl. When we went out for sushi & people seated around the table got their food cooked in front of them, I had to special order steamed rice ( which people always forget.) and not watch while they cooked & ate the rice. (I DON'T do eggs)

I still gag at the thought & sight of egg & veggie crap in my rice, but I have branched out past white rice.

However, while my palate has expanded & my ability to cook rice fully, I still find myself annoyed at juggling when I forget the grain blend I want takes 50 minutes. Sometimes I'm not exactly sure if my heat is right, or I run out of water, or the timing is off from my meal because the rice wasn't done. It seems when I try to make rice or other grain blends, my timing is always my error.

Now, I can preset & forget and still have perfect rice & grains with Cuisinart's new Rice Plus Multi Cooker with Fuzzy Logic technology..

I've made plain jasmine rice & a regular long grain organic brown so far but I'm ready to branch out, yet again.

For my breakfast tomorrow I am going to try my own recipe of cinnamon scented whole grains & for dinner this weekend, I want to try out chef Hubert Kellers recipe , which was made just for this amazing fuzzy logic rice cooker.

Brazilian Chicken and Shrimp Soup

A medley of aromatic spices, chicken and shrimp gives this hearty, Brazilian-inspired soup a burst of flavor; great as a one-pot meal.   

Serves 8

5  chicken thighs, skinned

3   tablespoons fresh lime juice

2  garlic cloves, minced 

1  tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 cup finely chopped onion (about 1 small)

1 cup diced green bell pepper (about 1 medium)

1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes 

1/3 cup finely chopped toasted peanuts

1 medium jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped

2  bay leaves

1-1/4  teaspoons salt                               

3/4   teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

3  cups chicken broth

1-1/2  cups coconut milk

8   ounces raw shrimp (medium size), peeled and de-veined   

10   ounces frozen peas                     

2  tablespoons finely chopped fresh cilantro

4  cups cooked jasmine or basmati rice for serving

                                                                             

1. Prepare rice using the long-grain directions on the cooking chart for Cuisinart’s Rice Plus™ Multi-Cooker. Rice can also be prepared the day before.
2. Place the chicken in a medium mixing bowl and season lightly with salt and pepper.  Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of the lime juice and rub chicken with minced garlic.  Mix thoroughly and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
3. In the cooking pot of the Cuisinart Rice Plus™ Multi-Cooker, add the olive oil. Set to Quick Cook and press start. Once the olive oil is hot, after about 3 minutes, add the onions and peppers and sauté for about 4 minutes until soft and fragrant.
4. Stir in the canned tomatoes including juice, peanuts, jalapeno, bay leaves, salt, pepper, broth, and coconut milk.  (Note: be sure to stir the coconut milk prior to pouring from can).  Add the chicken and marinade and stir until well combined.  Turn the unit off. Close the lid and select the Soup function and set the timer for 5 hours.
5. 15 minutes before the timer is done, rinse the shrimp well and pat dry. Place in a mixing bowl with the remaining lime juice and a pinch each of the salt and pepper.  Refrigerate for 5 to 8 minutes; no longer or the acid of the juice will begin to cook the shrimp.
6. Once there are 5 minutes remaining on the timer, open the lid and add the frozen peas and the shrimp, with the juices, and close again to finish cooking.
7. Once the timer tone sounds, open the lid. Discard the bay leaves. Take out the whole chicken pieces and place on a cutting board.  Remove the meat from the bone, cut into bite size pieces, and return to the pot.  Stir in the cilantro to combine. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
8. To serve, place some warm cooked rice (approximately 1/3 to 1/2 cup depending on portion size) in the bottom of each soup bowl and ladle the soup on top.   If desired, sprinkle with additional chopped cilantro and/or chopped peanuts.

This recipe for Brazilian Chicken and Shrimp Soup was developed specifically by Chef Keller using the Rice Plus™ Multi-Cooker.  The inspiration for this dish came from the two years in which Chef Keller worked in Brazil with Master Chef Roger Verge at Cuisine du Soleil.  There, he began to integrate some of the bright, bold flavors of Brazilian cooking that make this soup so unique and flavorful: combining chicken and jumbo shrimp, while using coconut milk and lime juice to deepen and enliven the stock base, and ultimately, adding a final flourish of cilantro.  

Additional Soup Pointers from Chef Keller:

• Soup is a great dish to serve at a cocktail party or get-together; pass it around in espresso cups or small Asian bowls, and for more informal gatherings, serve it in a coffee mug
• When serving soup, think about adding a few decorative garnishes that add color and texture to the finished product.  Since garnishes should always reflect or enhance the flavors in the main dish, look at the ingredient list to see if there is something already in the soup that can be chopped and sprinkled on top, such as:

• Peppers
• Peanuts
• Scallions
• Diced tomatoes
• Herbs
• Croutons
