With the growing amount of lead recalls in our childrens toys over the last few years, I know that I have been having a hard time finding American made toys, much less Eco Friendly toys when gift giving events come around. Now I've found out at Green Toys Inc. and I am just in love!
Not only are Green Toys made in the USA,
but check out the extensive safety testing they pass with flying colors!
- Consumer Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)
- Consumer Products Safety Standard Specification, ASTM F963
- California Prop. 65 restrictions on lead & cadmium
- FDA regulations for food contact
- Voluntary testing for no BPA (Bisphenol-A)
- International standards EN71 and ISO 8124
How do they make such amazingly safe & earth friendly toys you ask?? I was just getting to this amazing point!
"We use recycled milk containers as the main ingredient in creating our toys. Yes, the exact plastic milk jugs that you and your family drink from every day. When you finish your milk and toss the container in the recycling bin, these milk containers are collected at your curb by a local recycling company, who then sorts them from all the other types of plastic. Next, the milk containers are reprocessed into super clean fresh plastic. For you plastic geeks, the plastic material we use is called high-density polyethylene (or HDPE). This material is considered one of the safest, cleanest plastics around. "
That's AWESOME! Your kids drink milk, recycle a jug & it comes back to them in the form of a toy!! ( Hey, that's one way to convince a child to drink milk right??) My head is spinning with all the lessons you could teach using Green Toys Inc as a starting point!
Listen to this;
"Our toys are truly local creations. Every step in the process, from milk container recycling to toy production to final assembly, occurs in California. Our raw materials and toys aren't shipped from overseas, which saves a lot of energy and reduces greenhouse gasses. It also guarantees your toys won't get seasick before they get to your home! "
The forward thinking people over at Green Toys helped us find a great solution to a problem we had.
Andy loves to play kitchen! He just loves it, however, he doesn't want a flowery pink plastic Barbie colored tea set & lets face it. That's sort of whats available in mainstream toy stores.
Green Toys sent Andy their gender neutral Tea Set to help celebrate his third birthday!!

Check out the green & BLUE!! I love it!! Eer..Andy does.
One of my readers (USA only, sorry!) will win this tea set as well!!

I love the cookware and dining set and learned that Way back in the pre-Green Toys era, Robert was the founder of Propellerhead Studios, a leading Silicon Valley design studio specializing in electronic toys and games. At Propellerhead Studios, he worked with many major toy companies, including Mattel, Radica and Wild Planet. amsbolda@hotmail.com

ReplyDeleteDS and DD2 would love the tea party set! My mom has a set at her house that they play with all the time, but we don't have one. The other item that we NEED to get is the Chef set. DS is always helping in the kitchen, and it's usually with the utensil I need! lol

ReplyDeleteWhat a great site that they have. I love that they offer toys for children that are green and safe. I love the concept in how they make there stuff. My favorite thing was the gardening set that they had it is a great way to show your children how to use green products to grow the garden and not have pestisides or other chimicals in it. Thanks for sharing this site, I will be bookmarking it so that I can go back and order from them very soon.
ReplyDeleteI learned they are sold at pottery barn!
ReplyDeleteI'd get the dumptruck for my nephew - so cute.
Somethings I learned from that site: Laurie Hyman(try growing up with that last name!) Prior to starting Green Toys, Laurie worked as a marketing executive for several online consumer-marketing companies, including most recently Ingenio, a pioneer in combining the power and ubiquity of the Internet and phone to connect buyers and sellers.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this company created American Jobs (whoo hoo!) All Green Toys products are 100% made in the USA. To be more specific, they are produced in California, a state known for strict toy safety and environmental laws.
